25 years ago, Serious Sam: The First Encounter was released. The title was developed in Croatia by the studio Croteam. Just a year later, the game was followed up with Serious Sam: The Second Encounter. By 2022, over 20 more spin-offs, ports, and remakes had been released. However, the trilogy originally planned by the developers was never continued after The Second Encounter. That is now about to change.
Croteam has released an announcement trailer for Serious Sam: The Third Encounter, published by Devolver Digital. The trailer is available on ouTube .

There isn't much to see in the 30-second clip just yet. The opening shot shows a spaceship, followed by the appearance of protagonist Samuel Stone on screen. The clip ends by asking whether we are ready to face Mental.
So far, this merely confirms that protagonist Sam and his nemesis Mental are returning. A release date has not been revealed either. Those interested can already add the game to their Steam wishlist, though. In the game's lore, humanity has established several colonies across space, which come under attack by Mental and his hordes of monsters. Sam stands up to them. After capturing a spaceship, he embarks on a time-traveling mission to save mankind.
Serious Sam: The Third Encounter is a direct sequel that picks up the story without detours. Once again, Sam steps into the fray. The latest installment relies on its signature arcade shooter action, complete with massive enemy swarms and serious firepower. Alongside familiar weapons, players can look forward to new toys to take on the alien invaders. It can be played in single-player or alongside friends in co-op mode. Above all, total chaos takes center stage.
